DON’T SHRINK TO FIT

I am a runner, and I love a good tune when I run.

Recently, I stumbled across the most AMAZING track that had me pausing and having a good boogie on one of my runs.

I was so excited by this track, that when I got home, I popped it into a playlist for a Vinyasa class, making it my peak pose track.

I taught the class, pumped up my playlist, telling everyone how much they were going to love it… and it was awful!

It was too chaotic, the base jangled my nervous system, and I could tell that it was putting everyone off.

So what happened?

Well, here is the moment where I would blame the song. Say it was wrong in some way. Shame it and ask it to be less than.

But in the right environment, that song was a beast.

And of course… I am not talking about a song… I am talking about us.

How we can be in the wrong environment that asks us to be less than we are, and so we ‘wrong’ ourselves, thinking there is something wrong with us, when gurl there ain’t nothing wrong with you, you are just IN THE WRONG ROOM!

That song was a badass running track. But yoga? Nah mate, it was too hectic.

But that doesn’t make the song wrong… know what I mean?

When we shrink to fit a room (or another persons opinion of us…), we are stealing from ourselves, and this is a great example of asteya~ non stealing.

I feel this way about teaching. If I tried to be the yoga teacher for everyone, no one would want to come to my classes! You cannot be everyone’s cup of tea. So I teach LIKE ME, and those who love me stay, and those who think I am a punish, don’t. AND THATS OKAY!

If we are in a room that asks us to shrink, GET OUT THE ROOM. Don’t shrink to fit it.
