Hello lovely yogis,
So this past week, I have had a white board in the back room with the heading…
I do yoga because…
And I have invited peeps to write down their thoughts. Thank you to everyone that did!
My biggest reflection is that no one has put ‘Because it makes my muscles bigger’ 💪🏻
Yoga has given me my toned arms, so it DOES improve ya muscles… but it is not why people practise- take a look-
· I do yoga because I like myself better with it in my life, and others like me better too
· I do yoga because it fills my body with a calmness to lighten the load of my negative thoughts
· I do yoga because I find myself when practising yoga
· I do yoga to be my own best friend
· I do yoga because it empowers and refuels me
· I find myself whilst practising yoga
· I love the support that yoga gives me- both physically and mentally
· I do yoga to remember who I am
There is a famous quote from the Bhagavad Gita -
“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self”
I think these answers reflect this beautifully.
Getting clear on WHY you practise, will keep you practising.
There is nothing wrong with coming to yoga for fitness, but in my experience, it is not fitness that keeps us on the mat. It is more this inner journey to ourselves, and that is a magical thing.
So I put that question to you dear reader- why do you do yoga? And if it has been a while between classes, maybe have a think about what has kept you away…
