Small studio, big heart
I started my yoga journey in a gym class. I remember thinking ‘I have no idea what this is, or what the hell chaturanga is… but I wanna know more!”
I was obsessed with yoga.
But…
It took me about two years to build up the courage to walk into an actual yoga studio.
Why?
Because it was sooooooo intimidating to me! I got put off by thoughts like-
- Everyone is going to know what they are doing in a yoga studio
- You need to get everything right in a yoga studio
- A yoga studio is official…. I am not good enough to be an official yogis!
- I only have gym clothes- you can’t wear gym clothes to a yoga studio
- Everyone will be chanting and ohming and I won’t know any of the words
- I am not a yogis …
Sound familiar?! It is so funny how we make ourselves “wrong”- what does it even mean to be yogic enough? I have no idea! But it kept me away from having an actual yoga studio experience, and I am sad I lost two years to these doubts.
I am writing this just to acknowledge that it takes balls to walk into a yoga studio for the first time, and so I do not take it for granted anytime a new comer walks in.
Sowa Yoga is built to be a community space- that means small classes that are designed to not be intimidating. We have a max of 15 yogis per class, so the studio never feels overcrowded. We have a small crew of teachers so that you can build some familiarity with your teachers, and in that you will build a sense of safety.
We have props to deal with anything from tight hamstrings to sore knees- all bodies are welcome here.
If you are new to yoga, just remember that every yogis that is sat on a mat around you, all had their first class once too! You won’t know what you are doing at first, and that is okay! The trick is to not be put off by that- the only way to get more familiar with the poses, is to keep coming back!
So, if you are looking for a small, community led yoga studio in Matraville that is not too crowded or intimidating, we could just be the studio for you.
Be brave, book a class, and thank me later!
