HOW HAVE YOU RESTED TODAY?

I chatted on the phone with my mum in the Uk the other morning, and she asked me how I was. I told her I was good, but that I was tired, because my day off was Sunday and I had worked the whole day.

She celebrated me. Congratulated me on being such a hard worker.

Then told me to eat well and look after myself (because she is lovely!).

But this response got me thinking…

We celebrate productivity. In fact, we define our success (and possibly deep down our worth) on how productive we have been. Our world is addicted to 'doing'. My mums reaction taught me that is how I have been brought up too- no wonder I struggle to chill!

I wonder what would happen if we valued rest that much?

Instead of saying

“Hey how are you, what have you been up too? What have you been doing?”

We said…

“Hey, how have you rested this week? How have you taken care of yourself this week?”

What would change?!

The irony is, the more rested we are, the better work that we get done!

So, I put it to you dear reader…

How have YOU rested this week?

And just to be really clear, sleep doesn't count!

If the answer is not a lot, maybe it's time to book in a rest class?! We have a few…
